
The new science building at the Bertschi School was designed and constructed according to the Living Building Challenge (LBC) guidelines, which promotes sustainability in the built environment, including net-zero energy and water usage, energy efficiency and healthy indoor environments.

The Kladno Environmental Education Center located in the city of Kladno, Czech Republic, is a low-energy building that utilizes renewable energy generated on site, and was constructed with natural construction materials.

The Nardo School in Trondheim, Norway, has been built from solid wood, and is an energy efficient building that uses geothermal energy.

Beacon Skanska turned the environmental building ambitions of MIT into reality with the construction of the MIT Stata Center. The development of this building set new ‘green standards’ which MIT now use for all its construction projects.

An old barracks in Odense, Denmark, was transformed into a state-of-the-art, sustainable ‘green’ school offering a healthy and economic indoor and outdoor environment using as much of the old buildings as possible.

Building Schools for the Future (BSF) is a national programme aimed at lifting educational attainment through a transformation of England’s secondary schools. Over 15 years the project will see new schools built and existing ones upgraded to meet the needs of communities in the 21st century.
